A slow tempo marking between Largo and Andante. A composition written in a slow tempo, frequently the second movement of sonatas, symphonies, etc. Italian. A slow tempo. (1) played slowly, but not as slowly as largo (2) indication of tempo and is sometimes used to describe a slow movement, even when the indication of speed at the start of the movement may be different. The diminutive form adagietto is a little faster than adagio
