Definition and background:
The demand for further appearance of a performer or ensemble after a performance has been completed. The composition performed by a performer or ensemble upon his/her/their reappearance after the main body of a performance has been completed. (Fr) again; i.e., perform the relevant passage once more, A call from the audience at a concert for an extra or repeated performance. the word encore is also used to describe the music played in response to this call from an enthusiastic audience. The French should 'bis' rather than 'encore'.
