This letter, followed by a number, indicates the position of a composition by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the catalogue of Mozart's compositions as organized and compiled by Ludwig von Koechel. Also KV. The letter K, followed by a number, can also indicate the position of a composition by Dominico Scarlatti in the catalogue of Scarlatti's compositions as organized and compiled by Ralph Kirkpatrick, Professor of Music at Yale University. Kirkpatrick used the cataloging method started by Sir Ludwig von Koechel, and assigned catalog numbers to Dominico Scarlatti's compositions in chronological sequence. (1) "koechel", used instead of opus numbers to designate the works of Mozart (2) "kirkpatrick", used to designate the works of Domenico Scarlatti
